If Your CAPM Application or Certification Is Revoked
Understand What “Revoked” Means
A revoked status means PMI has cancelled or withdrawn your CAPM eligibility or certification after it was approved, typically due to ethical, compliance, or integrity violations. Once revoked, you are no longer considered a CAPM credential holder or eligible candidate until the issue is formally resolved with PMI.
Common Reasons for Revocation
Ethics or Code of Conduct Violation:
Breaching PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, such as dishonesty, misrepresentation, or unprofessional behavior, can lead to revocation of your CAPM certification or eligibility.
Fraudulent Information:
Providing false or misleading details in your CAPM application, during the audit process, or at any stage of the certification process is considered a serious violation.
Cheating or Exam Misconduct:
Engaging in exam-related misconduct, including cheating, sharing or using unauthorized exam content, impersonation, or violating exam rules, may result in certification revocation.
Failure to Maintain Certification:
Not fulfilling the required renewal or recertification procedures, such as retaking the exam when required or maintaining accurate records, can lead to suspension and eventual revocation of your CAPM credential.
Non-compliance with PMI Policies:
Ignoring PMI’s requests for verification, failing to respond to audits or ethics reviews, or violating any PMI policy may result in the cancellation of your CAPM certification status.
What to Do If Your Status Is Revoked
Review PMI’s Notification:
Carefully read the revocation notice sent by PMI. It will outline the specific reason for the revocation of your CAPM certification and any available next steps or deadlines.
Contact PMI:
Reach out to PMI through their official support or ethics department if you need clarification about the CAPM revocation or guidance on how to resolve the issue.
Submit an Appeal:
If you believe the revocation was issued in error or due to a misunderstanding, you may file a formal appeal. Ensure that you submit it within the timeframe specified in the notice.
Provide Supporting Evidence:
Prepare and include clear documentation to support your case, such as communication records, audit logs, training completion certificates, or any other relevant materials that validate your position.
If the Revocation Is Upheld
- You will lose your CAPM credential or eligibility permanently in cases involving fraud or serious ethical violations.
- You may be restricted from reapplying for a specific period or indefinitely, depending on the severity of the violation.
- Your name will be removed from PMI’s official list of active CAPM credential holders.
Prevent Revocation in the Future
- Always provide accurate and verifiable information in your CAPM application and audit process.
- Strictly adhere to PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
- Never share, copy, or reproduce any PMI exam materials or content.
- Ensure your certification renewal process is completed on time by following PMI’s guidelines and maintaining accurate records.
- Maintain open and transparent communication with PMI if any issues or questions arise during your CAPM certification or renewal process.
