ITILv4-Foundation

If Your Application or Certification Is Revoked

Understand What “Revoked” Means

A revoked status for the ITIL® 4 Foundation certification means the certification body has officially canceled or withdrawn your credential after it was issued. This typically occurs when a candidate violates exam policies, ethical guidelines, or the certification code of conduct.

Once revoked, you are no longer recognized as ITIL® 4 certified and cannot use or claim the credential on resumes, professional profiles, digital badges, or certification verification platforms.

To regain eligibility, you must work directly with the certification provider to resolve the issue. Depending on the circumstances, this may require submitting an appeal, providing additional documentation, completing compliance requirements, observing a waiting period, or retaking the ITIL® 4 Foundation exam.

Reasons for Revocation of ITILv4-Foundation - or Eligibility

Possible reasons for revoking an ITIL® 4 Foundation certification include violations of the certification provider’s Code of Conduct or professional ethics, providing false, misleading, or incomplete information during exam registration or recertification, cheating or exam misconduct such as using, sharing, or distributing unauthorized exam content, impersonation, failure to complete required updates or recertification requirements within the specified timeframe, and non-compliance with certification policies, including refusal to cooperate with audits, verification checks, or official requests for information or documentation.

What to Do If Your Status Is Revoked

What to Do if Your ITIL® 4 Foundation Certification Is Revoked

Review the Official Notification:
Carefully read the revocation notice issued by the certification provider. The notice explains why your ITIL® 4 certification was revoked and outlines required actions, deadlines, and any available appeal options.

Contact Certification Support:
Reach out to the certification support team if you need clarification, additional details about the violation, or guidance on how to resolve the issue.

Submit an Appeal:
If you believe the revocation was incorrect or based on inaccurate information, submit a formal appeal following the instructions provided in the notification. Ensure the appeal is filed within the specified timeframe.

Provide Supporting Evidence:
Prepare and submit relevant documentation to support your case, such as communication records, proof of training or exam attempts, identity verification documents, or any materials demonstrating compliance with certification policies.

If the Revocation Is Upheld

You will permanently lose your ITIL® 4 Foundation certification or eligibility in cases involving fraud, exam cheating, identity impersonation, or serious violations of the certification provider’s Code of Conduct. You may also be restricted from retaking the ITIL® 4 exam for a defined period or, in severe cases, banned indefinitely from pursuing ITIL certifications.

Once revoked, your name is removed from the official registry of ITIL® 4 certified professionals, and you can no longer claim or use the credential on resumes, professional profiles, or certification verification platforms.

Prevent Revocation in the Future

Always provide accurate and verifiable information during your ITIL® 4 Foundation exam registration, recertification submissions, and any audits or verification checks. Follow the certification provider’s Code of Conduct and exam policies at all times. Do not share, copy, distribute, or reproduce any exam content or proprietary ITIL materials. Keep your ITIL® 4 certification status current by completing all required updates or recertification requirements before the deadline. Maintain honest, professional, and transparent communication with the certification provider if any issue arises regarding your certification.
