Understand the Exam and Syllabus
The Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) exam consists of multiple-choice and scenario-based questions with approximately 240 minutes to complete. It measures the ability to audit, control, monitor, and assess information systems to ensure that business assets are protected and IT systems are aligned with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
The exam evaluates five main functional domains, including auditing information systems to ensure controls and governance are effective; evaluating IT governance and management frameworks for alignment with business strategies; assessing the acquisition, development, and implementation of information systems; reviewing IT operations, maintenance, and business continuity processes for reliability and resilience; and evaluating the design, implementation, and effectiveness of information security measures to protect data and technology assets.
Candidates should review advanced concepts and frameworks such as COBIT, NIST, ISO/IEC 27001, ITIL, and ISACA auditing standards. A strong understanding of risk management, IT governance, internal controls, audit planning and reporting, system development life cycles, business continuity and disaster recovery planning, incident response, compliance management, and information security principles is essential for success in the exam.
