CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure Exam Overview
The CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure certification exam consists of a written exam and a hands-on lab exam. The written exam includes multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, and simulation-based scenario questions, typically allowing around 120 minutes to complete. It measures a candidate’s ability to design, implement, operate, and troubleshoot complex enterprise networks using secure, scalable, and programmable infrastructures.
The exam evaluates several key functional areas, including understanding and applying network fundamentals such as IPv4 and IPv6 addressing, subnetting, advanced routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), VLANs, and Ethernet technologies; designing and configuring LAN and WAN infrastructures to ensure availability, redundancy, and optimal traffic flow; implementing IP services such as DHCP, NAT, NTP, QoS, and network device management; applying security principles including secure access, AAA, VPN concepts, device hardening, and segmentation; and using automation, programmability, and controller-based networking to operate modern enterprise networks efficiently.
Candidates should review core Cisco technologies and features such as Cisco IOS XE, routers, switches, wireless controllers, VLANs, trunking, spanning tree, EtherChannel, access control lists, and network security mechanisms, along with monitoring and management tools using Syslog, SNMP, NetFlow, and Cisco DNA Center. A strong understanding of network design, switching and routing logic, security best practices, network troubleshooting methodologies, automation concepts, and advanced network operations is essential for success in the CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure exam.
